The beauty of travel is that you get to meet some of the most unique and interesting people along the way. You learn about cultures, traditions, religions and beliefs, food differences and languages. You also learn about the type of traveller that you are. We’ve narrowed down 5 pretty relatable types of travellers- which one sounds the most like you?

The 5 Types of Travellers

1. The budget traveller

Also sometimes synonymous with the ‘poor uni student’ with a backpacker mentality trying to make the most of every single cent in their pockets. This type of traveller will be booking overnight buses to save on accomodation for the night, packing the free breakfast at the hostel for lunch, sleeping at airports in transit because they’ve booked a flight route with a 20 hour layover and either booking into hostels or have signed up for Couchsurfing. Of course the ‘budget traveller’ isn’t exclusive to uni students, it fits anyone that likes to challenge their pockets. They probably also only have carry on and are carpooling where possible or they’ll be walking… EVERYWHERE.

2. The vacationer

This one enjoys a trip away from reality to relax, lie at the beach, get massages, read books and simply do nothing. They tend to enjoy destinations with sun, cheap food, lots of convenience and some fun activities on the side. Usually though, they stay put in the same destination or region for the majority of their trip. They might be the type to work tiresome jobs and need a proper, no-responsibility, no-effort kind of trip or it could be someone who just wants to spend time with their friends without the commitment of constant activities and loads of travelling from place to place.

3. The tour-booker

This isn’t just exclusive to Conitiki and Busabout tours but all types of scenic and adventure tours. This type of traveller might be travelling for the first time, travelling alone or isn’t the organised type that can be bothered organising all the aspects of their trip. It could also be a parent who doesn’t want to be the one organising a trip for a family of 5. These travellers are okay with sacrificing flexibility and personal desires for the convenience that tours bring. These types of travellers tend to also enjoy lots of photo taking and sight-seeing from inside the bus.

4. The leap frog

This type of traveller is the one that likes to fit in as many places and cities as they can in the time that they have. They’ll be spending 2-3, maybe 4 days in a city and moving onto the next place (this is more relevant in Europe or Asia where place-hopping is easy). They like to explore different areas rather than immerse themselves deeply into the local community as they are simply ‘scouting’ for places that they would visit again for longer, at a later time in their life. This type of traveller also tends to be an adventurous traveller, relying on spontaneity to guide their trip.

5. The lux traveller

This is the traveller that maybe a small part of us all want to be. They are usually travelling economy plus, or business for long haul flights and always have check in luggage. They’ll be hailing a taxi, not a hostel shuttle bus, to their hotel (never hostel, maybe Airbnb) with their 4 wheel suitcase. They will enjoy sight-seeing and enjoy the comfort of a taxi or car over public transport, carpooling or walking the whole distance. These types of travellers see the world however they want to.

So, which traveller are you?
